Welcome to the real world...

Yesterday I graduated from college.

I couldn't help feeling when I went back to my room and started packing that I would still have class on Monday...or at least in August.

To spend twenty-one years of your life doing one thing, then to have it disappear is something that I'm sure will take a LOT of getting used to. It'd help if Michael and I were a little more organized, but c'est la vie.

We're also getting married in six months.

Things to do:
- Keep applying for jobs until I find one that I won't feel trapped in.
- Adopt a dachshund puppy!

- Have a giant garage sale.
- Save moneyyyyy.

The end.

Quick Update Before Sleepytime.

It's been almost two months, so it's about time.

- Vegas was AWESOME. Find the Wizard of Oz slot machines and DO NOT leave them.
- I got my wedding dress, and it's completely amazing. I adore it.
- Michael got hired to be an RA out in Longwood Village because someone on that staff was fired, so he moved out today. I miss him already. :[
- My room is rearranged so it looks like an office. It's pretty sweet, if I do say so myself.
- I have a midterm tomorrow. Eww.
- I got a 90 on my first paper of 2nd semester. Yayyyyy.
- Only 80 days until I graduate and have to live in the real world. Whoa.
- I over-invited to the wedding by 30 people. Oops?

More later. Sleep now.

<3333

322 Days and Counting...

...until my name is Heather Boyd.

We have a location now! Yayyyyyyyy! You would NOT believe how hard it is to find and book a place to get married when you're not using a church. Sheesh. But from what I hear, everything after that point is pretty much smooth sailing. :]

My mom and I went shopping yesterday to start buying decorations (now that Autumn stuff is 90% off), and we ordered the invitations today. They're gorgeous. It's going to be gorgeous. We're going to be gorgeous. Everything's gorgeous. GORGEOUS.

Next up...dress shopping.

Soooooo excited.

Oh, and um...totally going to Vegas for xmas in FOUR DAYS. Yeah. Wow.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Updating while waiting for turkey...

The semester is almost over, and I couldn't be happier. All of my hardest classes will be out of the way, so next semester I can relax and enjoy my last months of undergraduate life.

I specify undergraduate because I'm actually heavily considering grad school. If I become a graduate hall director at Longwood, they pay for the classes, the apartment, the mealplan, etc. I could do so much more with a masters...and yet, I'm so ready to just be done and start life in the real world. I don't know. There's a lot to consider. I wouldn't be starting in the Fall, at least, since I'd rather not have to go to classes the day before my wedding.

It is amazing how difficult it is to find a place to get married. Initially, I had a list of ideas and standards, and it's pretty much completely gone now. If I can find somewhere that isn't totally trashy on this budget, I'll be thrilled. We had one place that we both loooooved...a winery in Floyd, VA...but it's so hard to get to on the mountain roads that I'd be nervous to have my guests traveling there.

I don't know if I mentioned that we changed the wedding date. We kind of realized that a weekday wouldn't be easy for most of our guests, and I reeeeally liked the idea of a Fall wedding, so our new date is November 7, 2009. The day he gave me my promise ring. Cheesy, I know, but a cute kind of cheesy.

*Sigh*

Deviled egg time. Yum.

Oh ehm gee...I'm 21.

Weird, right?

I came to the conclusion long ago that in general, I hate alcohol. But one REALLY nice thing about it is the fact that when I'm in public, I can buy it, and everyone around me automatically knows that I'm not 15 years old. And I love that.

The strangest thing is that despite the fact that every other person in the world seems to think I'm 12-16 years of age, the lady from whom I purchased my first drink DIDN'T CARD ME. I went to Texas de Brazil with Michael, and we were both handed wine lists (mind you, he turns 21 in March...). I asked for the specialty drinks menu and got a Strawberry Caipirinha, which is composed of Cachaca (a Brazilian sugar cane rum), cane sugar, crushed ice, fresh lime, and strawberry liqueur. It was fabulous after I was buzzed enough that the strong alcohol flavor dissipated, but in a weird way, I was disappointed that the waitress trusted me.

We went to Macado's on the way back, where I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and was promptly asked for ID.

I'd say it wasn't too shabby a birthday. No, I did not get trashed, and yes, that's a good thing. I wonder how many other students here went to their morning classes the day after they turned 21.

I've eaten sushi three times this week, and tomorrow will make four. There is no sushi restaurant closer than 45ish minutes from Longwood. Am I completely insane? Maybe. But I have a happy belly full of ikura.

Speaking of belly, I've lost 15 pounds. This means that my blood pressure is pretty much back to normal. Let's just hope that I can keep it that way. :p

I'm doing a project for my English 400 class on animal shelters and euthanasia. It's depressing the crap out of me, really. I went to the local shelter to research the conditions in which those particular animals live, and it was not pretty. I wanted to kidnap several dogs, but there were two fences and lots of warning signs about arrests and trespassing and such deterring me from doing so. :\

Other things are going well. I have a mentee for SAI named Charlotte. Collectively, we have eaten waaaaay too much chinese food and sour gummy worms. She's pretty awesome.

I tried on wedding dresses on the 25th. First store, and I've already got three that I absolutely adore. It really hit home, though, seeing the dresses on me and having two sales ladies pull a train around and hand me mirrors. I'm getting married. Good God...I'm getting MARRIED. o_o

(We're thinking about having a zoo wedding now. Lolz.)

I can keep rhythm with no metronome...

This band (or maybe just this song) reminds me of Cake. Especially the instrumental section. It's weird, and I love it.

So I haven't updated in a while, and believe it or not, things have actually HAPPENED!

- I quit my job at The Cheese Shop and started working at Gold Taste Sushi and Rice Bowl. It's run by the guy who used to work at the sushi thing in Ukrops. He opened his own place in the same shopping center...haha. But its pretty fabulous. Right now, it's just me, Tin, and Nick Macrini in the mornings and evenings. It can be difficult when busy, but it's fun, and I get a free sushi lunch. Yay.

- I'm ENGAGED. Yep, that's right. We're getting married on April 6, 2010 so that we'll keep the same anniversary, be out of college, have plenty of planning time, etc.

Pictures of the ring?

Other news:

- Michael and I are going on a week long vacation in August in which we'll visit various cities in NC surrounding the Chapel Hill area to look for houses and to see if it's a climate in which I want to live for an extended period of time. I doubt it ever snows there, but I'm willing to compromise if it has a decent school system and a good sushi restaurant.

- I'm going to Vegas for Christmas this year, since by then everyone in my family will be 21. Excited much? Yes.

- I'm going back to school in less than a month for my SENIOR YEAR OF COLLEGE. Crazy. I need to think about who I want to cap me in the fall ceremony...hrm.

That's about it. See you in a month or two.

June already?

I've been feeling incredibly stressed out lately, and without good reason. That happens a lot, really. I'll have NOTHING to do or worry about, and I'll feel like I do. Right now, I'm getting stresed out about other people's problems, and I know that I shouldn't. Not that I shouldn't care, but sometimes I think that I get more upset about things than the actual people involved when I do this to myself...and that's just stupid.

I started work at the beginning of last week, and I've been closing every night. I haven't gotten a lot of sleep either, but I blame that on my stupid choice to go see the movie Strangers (unless you enjoy watching innocent people get tormented and stabbed repeatedly by people who just felt like it, then I suggest not seeing it). The commercials deceived me into thinking it was about something else. In hindsight, I don't know how. :\

Sarah's wedding was beautiful. I'm really glad that I went, especially since I actually remained calm on the flight. Maybe the years between my last flight and those really made a difference. It makes sense that I'd think more logically about it when I'm seven years older, no?

Anyway, I'm still working on finding my residents via facebook. I'm up to about fifteen, and I've started making doordecs and such. Pokemon themed ftw. I'm also attempting to get into contact with our advisor for SAI so that I can actually put the website work I've done online. I'm really excited about it, so I hope I can pull it off the way that I want to.

I need Michael time. We went to the zoo/got hibachi/saw that awful movie on Friday, but we couldn't spend more than part of that day together, which sucked. When you're used to living with a person, it's pretty difficult to suddenly be apart with infrequent visits. Especially when you hate talking on phones with a burning passion. *sigh*

When I have a day off on Tuesday, I'm going to stay in one spot all day watching Food Network and soaking my feet in bubbles.

Mmmm...bubbles.

Whoa.

I'm a senior in college.

How the hell did that happen?

I made the dean's list this semester, somehow. I ended up with four As and two Bs, which is not too shabby considering I had so much going on. Next semester I have only twelve credit hours, but I'll be HRA, SAI Editor, an RA Mentor, a member of LIT, and with any luck, I'll have a mentee for SAI as well. AND I'll be taking English 400 and 461 and re-taking History of Rock simultaneously. We'll see how that goes.

Anyway, I'm finally home for the summer. As soon as I finish unpacking the massive amount of stuff that I somehow managed to cram into my car like a jigsaw puzzle, we can hang out and such. Then it's off to my cousin's wedding, and then I work at Cheese Shop until August (out front at the counter).

Summer to-do list:

~ SAVE MONEY.
~ Start a major overhaul of the SAI GK website.
~ Learn every single one of my resident's names through facebook before I even meet them.
~ Complete all doordecs/duty board/location board/etc.
~ SAVE MONEY.
~ Clean out my closet, getting rid of all clothes that don't fit me, no matter how much I used to love them in 7th grade...
~ Actually exercise enough so that going up a flight of stairs doesn't suck.
~ Go on a nice week-long vacation sometime in July or August with Michael.
~ SAVE MONEY.

Maybe some good old relaxation, too. I'll start that now.

FOUR HUNDRED BABIES

POWERTHIRST

That video (and its sequel) amuse me thoroughly.

~So hey, it's Spring Weekend here at Longwood. Just saw Story of the Year perform...where the hell they came from after disappearing for four years, I have no idea. But they were pretty good.

~I'll be back at the Cheese Shop in May, except I'll be working out front, so perhaps people might see more than the tip of my pony tail if they come in to visit...haha. I didn't want to come back at first, but I think that being out of the kitchen will make me feel better about being there.

~My cousin is getting MARRIED. The last time I saw her, she was fifteen...now she's 22, and I'm going to her wedding. Where has the time gone? I feel old.

~Michael and I have been together for a little over a year now. He might be moving off campus so we can get a dog. There was one that we saw on petfinder.com that's a BASSET CORGI MIX. It's pretty silly looking, but really cute at the same time. *Le sigh*

Meh. Nothing much else going on. Projects, papers, exams, hall programs...

I might update if something really exciting happens.

Monthly Update

As the title implies, I'm going to try to update this thing once a month. If I remember.

1. I am the Head RA of Cox/Wheeler Residence Halls for the 2008/2009 school year.
2. Michael and I have been together for 10 months, and everything is going well.
3. Anglo-Saxon is kicking my ass. Hardcore.
4. I have another new fish...a sword tail, aptly named Takezo Kensei.
5. My blood pressure is very slowly decreasing. I need to up my dosage, I think.

That's about it. I'll edit if I think of more.

Haha. It's weird. I used to be so addicted to the internet, and now I rarely get on AIM, Myspace, or here. Facebook is really the only thing I check on a somewhat regular basis.

Anyway, here's a quick update...

1. I'm an old person. Not really, but I'm on medication for high blood pressure, so I feel like I am.
2. Michael and I have now been together for 9 months. Things are supar.
3. I'm doing a directed study on Anglo Saxon next semester instead of taking an internship this summer, so I'll probably be working. I haven't decided whether I'll go back to Cheese Shop or apply at Go-Karts Plus.
4. I'm completely and totally obsessed with Heroes. Case in point: I have two new fish, and their names are Mohinder and Hiro.
5. I'm applying to be HRA for Wheeler/Cox (or Wheeler/Cox/ARC/Stubbs...depending on how it ends up). Interviews are on Wednesday. Excitement.
6. My puppies are gone. It saddens me still, but I know it had to happen sometime. I just hope they knew in their doggee minds how much I care about them. *Le sigh*.

Think that's about it. Much of my life has been constant lately.

Oh, and something to think about that has nothing to do with me really......

The first part of a video which basically says that on May 8th, 2008 (They moved the date to then), scientists in France are either going to observe how the Big Bang worked through miniature simulation, or they're going to create a black hole that will either collapse instantly or destroy the Earth and possibly the universe. Fun, no?

Spring Cleaning?

So I went through my journal and deleted all of the old entries. It's time for a new start.

Things are going well for me, in general. I'm the RA of 3rd floor Wheeler next semester (honors freshmen). I made Dean's list. I'm a sister in Sigma Alpha Iota. My band is steadily working on a second album. And I have perhaps the greatest boyfriend that I've ever had. My choices kept getting better over time, it would seem. Michael's quite the gentleman. :]

He'll be here tomorrow night through Tuesday. Thank the Lord. I need a break from The Cheese Shop. Sooooooo busy. -_-
